The iconic New Land Rover Defender will be launched in India on 15th October, 2020, via a one-of-its-kind digital launch event. The Defender brand will be launched for the first time in the country.
Price
New Land Rover Defender is available in two models called the 90 (three-door) and the 110, which is a five-door SUV. Both models are offered in five variants each. Land Rover had announced prices for the Defender earlier this year and was open for pre-bookings in the country. The Defender 90 will retail at Rs 69.99 lakh and Rs 81.30 lakh, while the 110 model is priced between Rs 76.57 lakh and Rs 86.27 lakh.
Variants
The new Land Rover Defender will be imported into the Indian market via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route. Deliveries of New Land Rover Defender were supposed to commence in August this year, but delayed due to the pandemic situation. The new Defender will be offered in five trim-levels on both the 90 and 110 variants. This includes the base, S, SE, HSE and the top-spec First Edition.
Defender 90 measures 4,583mm in length, 1,974mm in height and has a 2,587mm-long wheelbase while the 110 measures 5,018mm in length, 1,967mm in height and has a 3,022mm-long wheelbase. Both however, are 2,008mm wide and have a maximum wading depth of 900mm. The 3-door 90 comes as a 5-seater while the larger 5-door 110 can be had as a 5+2 seater.
Engine
Both the 90 and 110 models in the Defender’s lineup will be offered with a single-engine option. This comes in the form of a 2.0-litre four-cylinder BS6-compliant petrol engine producing 292bhp and 400Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox with power sent to all four wheels. A larger and more powerful 3.0-litre petrol engine might also be launched later. 0-100kph takes a claimed 8.0sec in the 90 and 8.1sec in the 110.
New Land Rover Defender is the most capable and durable product in the Land Rover portfolio, while still retaining the authenticity and character of the original. Defender will compete with the Jeep Wrangler and the Mercedes-Benz G 350d.
Rohit Suri, President & Managing Director, Jaguar Land Rover India Ltd (JLRIL), said: “It will be a proud moment for Land Rover to bring the iconic New Defender for the first time in India since we entered the country in 2009. It will also be a significant milestone for the overall auto industry in India to witness the launch of a vehicle which enjoys legendary cult status across the globe. In line with its status, an immersive and highly engaging digital launch event has been planned to mark its arrival in India”
