British automobile manufacturer in a pre launch event showcased India’s first internet car technology iSmart which will debut in its upcoming SUV Hector in June this year.
MG along with global tech partners Microsoft, Adobe, Unlimit, SAP, Cisco, Gaana, TomTom and Nuance, unveiled several industry-first features of internet-enabled cars which will be available on all MG cars that will redefine connected mobility.
MG iSmart technology is housed in a 10.4” vertical Head Unit (similar to a Tesla HU). It allows the driver to control the entire car system with just a touch or voice command. The Head Unit is built to withstand extreme climatic conditions of India. It comes pre-loaded with entertainment content.
The OS is developed by MG India. MG iSmart comes with embedded connectivity solution, maps and navigation services, voice assistant, pre-loaded infotainment content, emergency and concierge services and built in apps. It comes with an embedded M2M sim by Airtel which is future proof and 5G ready. This enables the users to receive real-time software, entertainment content and application updates making the car first in India to get Over the air (OTA updates). iSmart next gen technology will be standard on all MG cars.
MG iSmart is equipped with voice assist specially designed by Nuance for India for Indian accent learning. Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) algorithms, the system will learn and get better every day with usage. Activated with ‘Hello MG’, the voice assist allows over 100 commands, including opening and closing of windows and sun roof, ac control, navigation etc. and works even under poor connectivity.
Keeping in line with brand value of MG – Enabling exciting experiences every time, MG India has integrated technology in the entire customer journey and customer experience. Adobe and Cognizant have partnered MG to develop the first ever Adobe Experience Cloud to make the customer journey a delight for MG customers. Likewise, SAP with iTelligence has built one of its kind Dealer Management System – ‘Magnet’, and connected apps. This system would host all information from company, dealers, service centres and customers at one place. This would make sure the customer can seamlessly be recognised and offered services at pre-sales, sales and post sales phases.
MG will launch its first car Hector in Q2 this year which will also have first in class 48V hybrid option. After Hector, MG plans to launch eZS electric SUV. MG plans to launch a total of four vehicles in the next two years.

TomTom
In terms of Navigation, iSmart comes pre installed with TomTom navigation application. It would regularly update maps, routes and locations through their IQ Maps feature.
Gaana
MG iSmart would be pre-loaded with the Gaana App and premium account with ad-free music and download capability. This would offer owners largest collection of latest music, smart playlists and personalised recommendations.
Accuweather
It provides real time updates on weather at location. Thus, weather conditions are available always to the driver helping them take necessary action under inclement weather.
Concierge services via pulse hub
The MG iSMART enables concierge services. When the I-call is pressed, a message is sent to a customer service agent at Pulse Hub. With just a touch on the Screen, driver is connected to Pulse Hub for a host of information services. Pulse Hub can also enable eCall emergency response. In an emergency condition, automatic messages are sent to the Pulse Hub and the registered phones along with a series of emergency response actions are activated.
MG iSMART mobile app
MG iSmart is a kind of telematics system. Via the app the user can carry out a series of actions like – Vehicle scanning to check pre-defined parameters, check fuel level & vehicle range, lock/ unlock status, lock/ unlock the vehicle remotely, remotely switch on the Climate control on a hot day when the car has been standing in the sun, find my car [Honking/Lights blinking/walk or drive to car], Set geo fencing, security alert, abnormal tyre pressure notification, vehicle management, create travel plan & push it to vehicle, speed Alert, MG network information and departure notification.
