The 6th generation Hyundai Elantra is the latest offering by the Korean automobile manufacturer in India. Elantra is the bestselling model for Hyundai worldwide, till date more than 11.5 million units have been sold. Yes, these are the official figures.
Premium quotient has been upped with the 2016 Hyundai Elantra, it looks more premium and draws design ques from Hyundai’s premium brand, Genesis.

Fluidic sculpture 2.0 gives the sleek looking Elantra mature and premium look. You won’t find it funky but would find it very refined, sleek and upscale. Simple and harmonious design can be seen with striking 3D hexagonal grille, sleek HID projector headlamps with LED DRL positioning lamps and a dynamic rear with LED tail lamps and a small yet useful shark fin antenna. Profile is strikingly linear with alloy wheels finished in gun metal and stylish looking repeaters on ORVM look upmarket.
Under the hood comes, the biggest in segment 2.0l Nu naturally aspirated petrol engine churning out 152ps power with 19.6kgm of Torque. The Atkinson cycle based engine provides better efficiency. This engine is mated to a 6 speed manual and H-matic automatic transmission and manages 14.6 Km/l.
On the other hand oil burner (Diesel) is carried over from the previous Elantra. The 1.6l CRDi VGT engine produces 128ps of power and 26.5kgm torque. The engine is mated to a 6 speed manual and H-matic 6 speed automatic transmission with ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 22.5 Km/l.
Automatic variants are offered with ‘Drive Mode Select’, wherein the driver can can select the best out of different worlds- Performance, Fuel efficiency or normal driving.
Three manual and two automatic trims in petrol and three manual and one automatic trim in diesel are presently offered. Prices for petrol start at INR 12.99 lakhs while the top trim is priced at INR 17.99 lakhs. Diesel variants start at INR 14.79 lakhs, withe top trim at INR 19.19 lakhs.

Hyundai has always been way ahead of all the manufacturers in providing first in class features on all its offerings in India. Hyundai Elantra is no different, in terms of safety it is equipped with ABS, EBD, VSM (Vehicle Stability Management) , ESP (Electronic Stability Program), hill assist control, six airbags, impact sensing auto door unlock, advanced high strength steel, auto defogger, projection fog lamps and HID headlamps.
In terms of comfort it is equipped with Dual zone FATC (Fully automated temperature control), rear AC vents, cooled glove box, tilt and telescopic stteering, steering mounted audio and Bluetooth controls, smart key with push button start/stop, rear armrest with cup holder, front center armrest, escort function, rear camera with steering adaptive guidelines, electrochromic mirror and electrically adjustable and folding ORVM (Outside rear view mirror)
Other smart features include Smart trunk (Stand withing 1 meter of the trunk for three seconds with the smart key, the hood pops up and opens automatically), Pocket Light (Where in the handles light up when the driver comes in close proximity without even touching the key) and electric sunroof.
Hyundai Elantra is equipped with 8″ AVN (Audio-video navigation) system with support for Apple Car Play and Android Auto with voice recognition. In order to provide premium experience the audio system boosts sound through Arkamys sound mood with surround sound and automatic volume control.
While Hyundai Elantra has been priced very conservatively, expect some mouthwatering deals from the competitors (Toyota Corolla Altis, Skoda Octavia, Renault Fluence and Chevrolet Cruze)
