Mercedes CLA Class Sedan launched in India at INR 31.50 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Mercedes launched the CLA 45 AMG in July last year. The new regular entry level sedan CLA class is pitted directly against the already launched AUDI A3 in India.
Mercedes CLA CLass is available in petrol as well as diesel. The petrol engine on offer is a 2.0 litre, 4 cylinder turbocharged unit churning out 181 BHP and 300 NM of torque with an ARAI fuel efficiency of 15.04 km/litre. The diesel mill doing duty on the CLA is 2.2 litre 4 cylinder turbocharged unit which produces 135 BHP and 300 NM of torque with an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 17.9 km/liter.
The CLA class measure 4630 mm in length, 1777 mm width and 1432 mm in height with a 2699 mm wheel base. The CLA is longer than its direct competition the Audi A3. It also beats Audi A3 in terms of wheel base as well as boot space. CLA being comparatively heavier, Audi has an upper hand in terms of fuel efficiency and power to weight ratio.
Even though it is an entry level luxury sedan it is still loaded with features such as panoramic sliding sunroof, Harman Kardon Logic 7 surround sound system, Reversing camera, Bi-xenon head-lamps, satellite navigation, 7 speed dual clutch transmission and paddle shifters.
The Mercedes CLA CLass is priced higher than the Audi A3 by roughly INR 7 lakhs due to the fact that it is imported as a completely build unit. It is expected to be locally assembled soon in India, which will bring the prices closer to the A3.
The company plans to introduce 15 new products in India this year and pump in Rs 150 crore for adding a new assembly line for its upcoming CLA sedan at the Chakan facility. With expansion, the plant will now have a capacity of 20,000 units per year, the largest for any luxury car manufacturer in the country.
