Toyota has approached the small car subsidiary Daihatsu to help them prepare a successful small car for the Indian market after being defeated with the Etios and Liva twins. Now Toyota Aygo is being considered for India to compete with the likes of Hyundai Eon, Chevrolet Beat and Alto k-10. Toyota India has imported three units of its little hatchback, Aygo, in India for Research and development (R&d) purposes from its Czech Republic- and UK-based offices has been reported by Zauba.
The vehicles imported are equipped with a 1.0 liter 68 BHP and 95 NM of Torque mated to a 5 speed gear box with an optional AMT gearbox as well. The hatch measures 3455 mm and a 2340 mm wheelbase and is equipped with some interesting features like Projector headlamps, Led Tail lights, Led DRL and touch screen infotainment screen.
All Toyota Aygo are built at Toyota Peugeot Citroën Automobile Czech (TPCA) joint venture in Czech Republic. Initially launched in 2005 offered with 1.0 liter petrol engine and a 1.4 liter diesel engine. The diesel option was later discontinued in 2007. The Citroen C1 and Peugeot 107 share the same platform as the Aygo with difference in interior equipment, logos and badges.
Toyota Aygo in order to be priced under the Liva and compete against Hyundai Eon, Chevrolet Beat and the Alto K10 needs to be highly localized to bring down costs.
